Our acreage is small, but we feel that it is important to have adequate guardians to protect our livestock. Besides our sheep, we raise a variety of poultry on our farm, and have lost many birds to coyotes, owls, foxes, racoons, hawks, and even blue herons and turtles! We have a creek bordering our property on two sides, which really attracts wildlife. We have yet to lose a sheep to predator.
We keep our female llama, Salem in the main pasture with ewes and lambs. She has done a fabulous job with the sheep, always alert to anything new going on. It's fascinating to see her interact with the new lambs. She also has wonderful, silky fiber that I spin with my Icelandic wool.
