Our 2011 Lambs

March 22 --As expected, Charlotte RBR 12R was the first to lamb - Triplets!  Her third set in six years.
A moorit mouflon ewe (7 lb.), a moorit grey ram (7 lb.) and a black ewe (8 lb.).
Sadly, the last ewe was breach and didn't live. Sire is Grendel TCE 561W

I am especially thrilled with this little ewe.  She is the 166th lamb born on our farm
and the very first  moorit mouflon ewe.  We'll most likely keep her!

March 29 --Claire RBR11R delivered a spotted set of twins EARLY this morning, a 9 lb moorit
ram with huge hornbuds and an 8 lb. mooit/grey spotted ewe.  These are our first lambs by our
new Tongue River ram Thunder
SRX 917T. Spotted lambs are so much fun!
(after seeing the little ewe out in the sunshine, I've realized she's moorit grey, not black grey)

April 6 --Yearling ewe Grace RBR112W  had her first set of lambs, a set of twins,
with momma Charlotte standing by.  The white ram was 7 lb. and the white ewe was 6 lb.
So nice to see a first time mother so confident and calm.  Sire is  Thunder
SRX 917T.

April 7 --Delphine RBR32S had a chunky set of twins Thursday morning, a 9 lb. moorit ram
and an 8 lb. moorit spotted ewe, nearly identical to herself.  Sire is Grendel
TCE 561W.

April 7 --Just as Delphine was finishing up inside the barn, I looked out and saw that
Glimmer
RBR109W had just delivered a lamb, a 7 lb. black grey ram lamb.  Her second came
before he had a chance to get dried off, another black grey ram. These have been our most
vigorous lambs yet, probably due to their leadersheep genetics. Sire is  Thunder
SRX 917T.

April 8 --Fiona RBR81U  delivered a set of white twins Friday morning, a 7 lb. ewe
and and 8.5 lb. ram. Another wonderfully attentive mother. Sire is Grendel
TCE 561W.

April 10 -- An early morning barn check found Grettle RBR193W  had delivered twin moorit ewes,
7 and 6.5 lb., both with full tummies snuggled up with momma.    Sire is  Thunder
SRX 917T.

April 11 -- Another early morning barn check, Fennel RBR85U  had  twin white lambs, a 9.5 lb. ram
and a 7.5 lb. ewe.  The ewe has a lot of tan on her, which is probably
phaeomelanin. Some lambs will
have so much phaeomelanin that they can look tan in color.  This often fades as they mature,
but sometimes an adult will retain this coloring, which gives the fleece a beautiful antique linen look.
Sire is  Finn
RBR76U   These will be our only Finn lambs this year.

April 12
-- Gardenia RBR104W had her very first lambs today, twin ewes!  Both weighed in
at 6.5 lb., which is perfect for Icelandics.  There's a white one and a flashy black spotted one.
Sire is
We will most likely keep the spotted ewe.

April 26 -- Hurray for Faye RBR65U!  A beautiful set of twin moorit ewes by Thunder SRX 917T.,
one is a moorit grey, both have a lot of flashing, and there may some spotting,
I'll have to wait until they mature a bit before I know for sure.  This was another perfect delivery,
7 and 8 lb., right on target.  Faye had one of our nicest ram lambs last year,
and I'm sure these girls will be nice as well.

April 28 --
Our last ewe to lamb, Ella RBR40T greeted me this morning with a big set of ram lambs
by  Thunder
SRX 917T..  The black ram was 10 lb. and the moorit was 8 lb. These rams should
mature into very nice large rams, flock sire material for sure.

Our lambs have now all arrived safely into this world.  We had one of the easiest lambing seasons yet,
with slightly over a 200% lambing rate, and birth sizes right on target at an average of 7-8 lb.
Ewes are all excellent mothers, and lambs are gaining well. Our pastures are greening up nicely,
and the flock is enjoying the lush spring grasses.  I spend a considerable amount of
time each day observing the flock, and I hope to have a sales list up by late May.
